When RI President Ian Riseley challenged Rotarians around the world to plant a tree for every Rotarian last spring, Sun City AZ Rotarians responded immediately. They met with members of Sun City PRIDES, a community service organization of volunteers who maintain Sun City’s public areas.  The Desert Canopy Project was the perfect project for everyone -- planting new drought-resistant, broad-leaf trees to beautify and shade the City’s streets.

Both the Sun City (with its Satellite Club) and Sun City del Sol Clubs made pledges for the trees.  Sun City’s President Steve Bjornstad prepared a District Grant application that doubled the Clubs’ amount.  It was approved by District 5495 in July.  The 60 Rotary Trees will be planted before Thanksgiving.  A handsome plaque will recognize “Rotary Clubs at Work in our Sun City.  One Tree for Every Rotarian.””

“We challenge all District 5495 Clubs to join us.  Plant trees in your towns!”
