Peoria North Rotary Club members joined with the Glendale West Rotary Club on June 12 to hear a presentation on the Crutches 4 Africa project from two of the six District 5495 Interact students who will be traveling to Kenya July 1 to deliver collected items. Cassidy Johnson, a senior at Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, and Hannah Mason, a senior at Westwood High School in Mesa, shared the history of the program and an update on this year's delivery.
Throughout the year, district Interact clubs have collected mobility devices -- crutches, walkers, canes, wheelchairs and more -- and stored them at American Furniture Warehouse. Thousands of collected devices have been shipped to Kenya and in July the six Interact ambassadors, along with several adults and assistance from African Rotary Clubs, will begin distributing items to those in need. At the conclusion of the meeting, PNRC President John Moore president the students with a $500 gift from the club to help offset trip expenses. A story about Cassidy and the Crutches 4 Africa program was recently published in the Scottsdale Independent. Read the story here
