Release Submitted by Dr. Honora Norton, RCSL Public Image Chair

Rotary Club of Sun Lakes has announced that Paige Green, Special Education Teacher at Chandler’s Haley Elementary, received RCSL’s Education Program Teacher Award for the Month of November 2021 and Kelly Baker, fifth-grade teacher at Chandler Conley Elementary, received RCSL’s Education Program Teacher Award for the Month Award of December 2021.

The monthly teacher awards are sponsored jointly by Rotary Club of Sun Lakes, TrustBank and Earnhardt Auto Centers.

Per RCSL’s Education Chair, Don Robins, each month various RCSL Members select from a large base of nominees a teacher from East Valley using the following selection criteria:  total years of service in the field of education; examples of how the proposed teacher goes above the normal requirements; examples of how teacher enhances the education of her/his students; the respect for the teacher by her/his peers, students and parents; and, interest shown by the teacher to be involved in extracurricular activities and in the community.

Ms. Green  grew up in Chandler and attended school in both Kyrene and Tempe Union School Districts. She attended NAU in Flagstaff Arizona for two years and graduated from ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College with a Bachelors of Art in Elementary and Special Education in December 2016.

Per Haley Elementary Principal, Nicole McMillian and fellow teacher, Amy Miller, Ms. Green is an energetic and positive team member; teaches from her heart with passion, patience and persistence; and for the past five years has supported the school drama club’s annual productions, especially with choreography – thereby adding to the school’s thriving in arts.

Mrs. Baker has been teaching since 2005; received her bachelors from Ottawa University, and her Masters in Education and Reading Endorsement from NAU. Per Conley Principal Lisa Shore and fellow teacher Rebecca Marty, Mrs. Baker is an amazing and kind teacher and a patient supportive co-worker.  Mrs. Baker believes as a professional, she is entrusted with the education of young minds and must facilitate learning and growth academically, personally, and ethically - in order to equip children with the tools necessary for success in life.

As Jon Lyons, RCSL President, presented each teacher with a $500 check, he congratulated and thanked both Ms. Green and Mrs. Baker for their outstanding support of education and youth within the East Valley.  Additionally, Mr. Lyons acknowledged RCSL Rotarians and both TrustBank and Earnhardt Auto Centers for their support of the RCSL’s Educational Programs.
