Author, cowboy and horse lover - H. Alan Day was keynote speaker at a Rotary Club of Scottsdale luncheon meeting held at Scottsdale's McCormick Ranch Golf Club.    When introducing Alan Day, Rotarian Don Loose stated that Alan's upbringing branded him a cowboy from the day he was born. Alan is part of the third generation to grow up on the 200,000-acre Lazy B cattle ranch straddling the high deserts of Southern Arizona and New Mexico.  Alan's granddad settled on the ranch near Duncan AZ in 1880.  As settlers, many firsts were initiated - first jersey cow, orchard, bank, schoolhouse... After graduating from University of Arizona, Alan returned to manage the Lazy B for the next 40 years.

In Interview with John Blount
2019 Rotary International Convention chair

What was your first convention?
It was in 1988 in Philadelphia. I took my mom, my daughter, and my wife, so it was a family trip as well as an excuse to go to the Rotary Convention. I went to a couple of sessions, and then we enjoyed Philadelphia. It was a great t rip, but it's not a memorable convention to me because I really didn't partake in it.

But when I was incoming governor a few years later, I went to the convention in Portland, Oregon. It was amazing. I heard speakers like Robert Fulghum, whose famous for writing the book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. He was fantastic. I end most of my speeches with a quote I got from him. That convention broadened my understanding of what I was getting into.
