A look at "People of Action" -- Rotary Clubs and Rotarians throughout District 5495!

Rotary Zones 26/27 held its Big West Zone Institute Nov. 12-13 in Tucson, Arizona. The institute was preceded earlier in the week by GETS and GNATS training (education for governors-elect and governors-nominee-elects). A number of Rotarians from District 5495 participated in the event, including District Governor-Elect Larry Horton and District Governor Nominee Kevin Pitts. A graduation ceremony was held the final evening to celebrate the end of training for all District Governors Elect in Zones 26 and 27.

District 5495 celebrated the work of our Rotary Clubs in 2020-21 with an awards ceremony held July 10 at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park.

District 5495 held its 2022 district conference -- its first in-person conference in three years -- May 12-14 at the Prescott Resort and Conference Center in Prescott, Arizona. (All photos by Wayne General)

District 5495 and 5500 Rotarians joined Rotarians from California, Texas and George on a trip to Caborca, Mexico for a polio immunization trip. In addition to providing polio vaccines to children throughout the rural areas surrounding Caborca, the group of Rotarians also visited the Caborca Children's Medical Clinic and provided donations to help fund the clinic.

Several Rotary Clubs in District 5495 helped sponsor a peace project that resulted in the creation of a "Quiet Room" at the Phoenix Police Department's 9-1-1 dispatch center. The project was spearheaded by Past District Governor Chuck Fitzgerald. The Quiet Room was dedicated in September 2019 during a grand opening ceremony that featured Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.
